The Kadrmas, Solil and Schrier Families

Josef Kadrmas was born September 5, 1856 in Dobrikov, Czech Republic. He later moved to Chrudim . He married Frantiska Solil (born September 12, 1858) on August 24, 1880 in Repniky, Czech Republic. In October 1884 they purchased and moved to the farm south of Traer, Iowa where George Kadrmas currently resides. The north section of the farm house is the only building that was there in 1884.

They came to Iowa with two daughters, Anna (3 years old) and Frances (1 year old). They also brought Frantiska's mother Anna (Kopky) Solil and her sister Maria (16 years old at the time). Anna died in 1888 and is buried at Holy Trinity Cemetery near Vining.

Maria Solil (born 1868, died 1954) married Frank (born 1863, died 1943) Schrier (Srajer in Czech). They made their home in the Buckingham area and had two children: Joseph married Kathryn Griffin. They had two sons Robert (wife Mercedes Rottinghaus), and Jim (wife Joanne Jacobs).

Mary married Frank Yuska. They also had two sons Donald (wife Georgiann Vanous), and Frank (wife Doris Kvidera).

Josef and Frantiska Solil Kadrmas had six children:

  • Anna (born August 5, 1881, died February 22, 1977) married Joe Vencil Yuska (born September 4,1879, died September 12, 1975) and lived near Buckingham. They had three daughters Agnes (Joe) Ruzicka, Blanche (Ernest) Mannel, and Dorothy.
  • Frances (born February 10, 1883, died April 18, 1974) married Fred Rund and lived in the Toledo area. They had two sons Albin and John (wife Gladys Papesh).
  • Mary (born 1890) was the first child born in the United States. She married Charles Bartosh and had two children. Charles (wife Gladys Southard) and Josephine Jensen.
  • Bessie (born April 1897, died in 1937) was a twin to Joseph. She married John Frank Soska (born April 8, 1894, died September 5, 1955) and lived near Hudson. They had three sons, William (wife Helen Kubik), Wesley (wife Pauline Novotny) and Frank (wife Darlene Herink).
  • Joseph John (born April 5, 1897, died August 9, 1983) married Elsie Cecelia Psota (born September 12, 1901, died November 29, 1996) of Cedar Bluff, Iowa. The resided on the family farm and had a son George (wife Patricia Stevens) and a daughter Joyce.
  • Christina (born 1898, died 1982) married Joseph Kriz and lived west of Clutier. They had nine children: An infant son who died in 1921, Ludwig, Joseph R (wife Betty Smith), Pauline Ann, Melvin (wife Donna Mott) , Alfred, Evelyn (Don Carlson), Frank (wife Marcella Cecak), and Martha (James Breja).

Frantiska (Solil) Kadrmas died in 1909 of tuberculosis at the age of 51. Josef died in 1939. They are buried at St Wenceslaus Cemetery, rural Clutier. Frank and Maria Schrier are also buried at St Wenceslaus Cemetery. Both families were among the founding families of the church.
