Funeral Cards
Updated 4 August 2009
What are Funeral Cards?
Funeral or memorial cards have a long history – with social customs attached. These cards were to be distributed to family members, friends, and the surrounding community in a timely manner to alert them to the date and time of the funeral. In our Catholic tradition funeral cards were often distributed at the wake and even the funeral. Mercedes (Rottinghaus) Schrier saved a large collection of funeral cards. As those cards are scanned, they will be added to this page. Obituaries are listed on a separate page.
